How To Apply Plasters?

Plaster refers to building material which is being used for the protective or decorative coating of walls and ceilings and for moulding and casting decorative elements. Plastering covers rough walls and uneven surfaces in the beautification or construction of houses and other structures with a plastic material, called plaster, which is a mixture of lime or cement concrete and sand along with the required quantity of water.

When you build your house, it’s very important to do plastering. The purpose of plastering is to decorate the structures of the walls. It not only beautifies, but increase the durability of the wall and also helps protect your house from the negative impacts of a change in weather.

Before plastering you will need variety of plastering tools like trowel, bucket, hand-boards (Hawk), straight Edge, spirit level, brushes, texture brush, plaster float, this will help you during plastering. Plastering is one of the final steps in finishing an interior or exterior wall.

  • Before you apply plaster, ensure that your wall has some moisture.
  • This will stop the wall from absorbing the water in the plaster.
  • To ensure this, you should sprinkle water on the walls.
  • When you are planning to do plastering, ensure that you mix in small amounts, as this allows the plaster to be used immediately.
  • If the surface of the walls are not level, you will need to apply a thicker coating of plaster. In such case, it is recommended that you apply 2-3 layers of plaster.
  • After you have applied plaster it is very important to do curing for 7-10 days.
